It seems a different player steps up and has a great match each time CR plays.   This time it was Hannah Naegele.  Playing Amanda Weiss, a dangerous strong player, Hannah had her best match of the season and gave the Cardinals the 4th point to secure the match.  Again strong doubles play allows CR to be in the position to win, but one of the singles players have to step up and win a tough one if the team is going to win.  A great team victory!  On to Elk River

Mady Brinkman/Nicole Edmond vs. Levang/Stanke 6-2, 6-1 The biggest win was Heidi Hannula's at 4th singles.  This victory sealed the match for us.   The most impressive victory was Lauren Beckman's 7-5, 7-5 victory.  Lauren was down in both sets at 1-4 and 2-5 and came back and won both sets and the match.

Emily Bauer at first singles was the last person on the courts for CR.  The best compliment came from Osseo's coach who said that "there is no quit in that girl".

CR's youth and inexperience surfaced in a tough 3-4 loss to Blaine.  Two Sophomores and two freshman could not pull out one singles match victory and it spelled defeat for the Cards.  We play Park Center Wednesday night at PC.

With many of the girls having their 9th match in 6 days, Coach Riha wondered if a physically and mentally tired group of girls would be up to the challenge of a fine Roger’s team.   They were.  Conference play starts next week with our toughest test to date—away at Elk River.

The girls showed their versatility in playing doubles and singles in this match as we had an injury at 2nd singles and had a new lineup for this match.

The Coon Rapids Cardinals girls tennis team had a successful opening weekend with three victories in CR's Eye-Opener Tournament.
CR 4  Cretin D Hall 3

The first doubles team of senior captains Libby Storrick/Brianna Havelka were undefeated winning 6-1, 6-0 vs Cretin, 6-0, 6-0 vs Maple Grove, and 6-1, 6-1 vs Blaine.

The second doubles team of senior captains Hannah Miller/Crystal Overbaugh were undefeated winning 6-1, 6-3 vs Cretin, 6-2, 6-4 vs Maple Grove and 6-1, 6-0 vs Blaine

Emily Bauer(10) at first singles went 2-1 beating Cretin 6-3, 6-1 and Blaine 6-2, 6-4, while losing to Maple Grove 0-6, 1-6

Hannah Naegele(9) at second singles went 1-2 beating Maple Grove 6-2, 3-6, (12-10) but losing to Cretin 4-6, 2-6 and Blaine 5-7 2-6

Lauren Beckman (10) at third singles beat CDH 7-5, 1-6, (11-9) against Cretin but lost 4-6, 2-6 vs Maple Grove and 6-7(4-7) 1-6 to Blaine.

At fourth singles Sarah Brinda(10) lost to Cretin 3-6, 2-6 Heidi Hannula(9) beat Maple Grove 2-6, 4-5 (retired) and Blaine 6-3, 6-4

Third doubles team of Maddy Brinkman (11) and Hannula lost to Cretin 3-6, 4-6, Alexi Johnson(12)/Nicole Edmond(12) lost to Maple Grove 6-7(4-7), 3-6 and Brinkman/Brinda beat Blaine 6-2, 7-6,(7-5) (10-4)
